Our Story

From a Gothenburg Workshop to a Montana Barn

Erik Lindqvist grew up in his grandfather's woodshop in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he learned traditional Scandinavian joinery techniques — mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, tongue-and-groove — all by hand before ever touching a power tool.

When he moved to Montana in 1993, he was struck by how much the rugged landscape reminded him of the Swedish countryside. After five years learning the American construction trade, he opened Cedar Ridge Custom Carpentry in a converted dairy barn on his property.

What sets Cedar Ridge apart is Erik's commitment to traditional craftsmanship in a modern context. Every joint is hand-fitted. Every piece of wood is selected by hand. In an age of flat-pack furniture and cookie-cutter cabinets, there's a deep hunger for things that are made with care.

What Our Clients Say

Every project is a partnership. Here's what our clients have to say about the experience.

Erik built our entire kitchen — cabinets, island, open shelving, the works. Every drawer glides like silk. Every joint is perfect. Two years later, it still takes our breath away. This isn't cabinetry, it's art.
